Can Eating Certain Foods Help You to Lose Weight?

Now that the holiday season is here, holiday foods and meals take center stage. And this is as it should be. Food is a terrific celebration of friendships, of family and of love. These celebrations do not have to lead you to unhealthy eating habits. With a little advance planning, you can really enjoy your food and the holidays. Remember that the mental attitude you bring to the table is as important as what's on the table.
1. Plan Ahead. Without thinking about what is likely to be served, the best intentions fall by the wayside faster than you can shake a drumstick. If you absolutely cannot pass up the cornbread or cinnamon buns warm from the oven or Aunt Fay's amazing apple cake, then you need to decide what and how much you will eat so someone does not have to roll you out. If you're going to eat the apple cake that's fine, but remember to eat fewer quiche and pastry puff appetizers when you arrive and to pace yourself throughout the meal.
2. Strategize. So if you're not eating puff pastry appetizers, what are you going to eat? If you're going to someone's house for the holidays or if it's in your home, serve something that is good to eat like a salad, lots of vegetables and maybe shrimp cocktails and take larger portions of those and smaller portions of the rest of the meal. Eat your vegetables first. They'll fill you up, leaving less room for the more calorie-packed stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie.
3. Relationships first, food second. Yes, the holidays have wonderful foods - everywhere. But the reason you're gathered together with relatives and friends, rather than eating alone is to be in contact with people. Focus on the people and what you're doing instead of strategizing how to get those last potato puffs before Aunt Harriet does. Let Aunt Harriet have it. Besides, if her mouth is full, it will keep her from gossiping and give you the opportunity to connect with people you care about.
4. Eat small meals throughout the day. Do not make the mistake many people do of eating virtually nothing during the day to "save" extra calories for the big meal. You'll end up hungry and eat things you don't particularly like. Eat high-fiber mini meals for breakfast and lunch with snack (think whole fruit) in between to prevent an all-out binge.
5. Slow down. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register fullness. Put down your fork and talk to your neighbor.
6. Water, Water, Water. We often eat, when we are really thirsty. Drink water before, during and after the meal so you are well hydrated.
7. "Let's toast the Holidays!" Although it is important to drink liquids, alcohol dehydrates you, acts as an aperitif and loosens your resolve to eat healthfully. Calories really add up - and not just from the alcohol. Studies show that when we drink, we eat almost 20% more than our teetotaling friends. For an easy option, consider a wine spritzer or save the first toast for when the turkey is served, and sip four ounces instead of the usual eight.
8. Go for a walk. Instead of watching football on the couch all afternoon - eating the chips and dips during time outs - why don't you gather everyone for a long walk? Taking a 45-minute walk could use up almost 250 calories. This is a wonderful holiday tradition you could start. If nothing else, you're not home eating the leftovers.
9. Talk kindly to yourself. Banish the mantra, "I always gain weight over the holidays." Instead say to yourself, "I am giving myself the gift of health. I can eat and enjoy any food I want in moderation." Or as diet Dr. Gullo says, "Thin tastes better."
10. Enjoy the season of celebration. Remember the holidays are about coming from a place of gratitude. Now especially this year, we have a lot to be grateful for. Treat yourself well with friends, with loved ones and yes, with foods.

the weight-loss

When you truly consider the weight-loss process, the battle waged is mostly in your mind. "Should I eat the corn muffin with butter or would it be better for me to have margarine or better yet, have jelly? What am I doing eating this muffin anyway? It's so caloric and filled with saturated fat. I'm such a pig. I have absolutely zero willpower." It's no wonder you'll eat that muffin with the butter and slather jelly on top to quiet that negative self-talk.
What you need more than a diet is a way to shift those negative self-defeating thoughts to more adaptive, positive self-statements. As with most things worth doing, this requires a bit of practice. First, become aware when you're using a negative statement, then determine what about that thought is faulty and finally, replace it with a self-defense response or coping thought.
In the corn muffin example, instead of listening to "I'm such a pig" which clearly mislabels who you are, respond with "Pigs are animals and I am human. I don't have to be perfect."
Many people cannot change their eating habits until they change their thoughts about food, eating and drinking. By shedding "distorted" thoughts and replacing them with productive ones, eating habits can be changed. It is possible to rid yourself from many self-critical thoughts, but like any ingrained habit, it takes vigor and vigilance to change. Here are some other thinking distortions to challenge:
Shoulds. Should statements are more about other people's values, not ones chosen by the person who wants to lose weight. Additionally, should statements reflect an attempt by the dieter to motivate herself without really believing in the value. Better to determine what works for you. "I will eat up to two Hershey kisses daily and thoroughly enjoy them."
All-or-Nothing. This kind of reasoning is the foundation for perfectionism. An all-or-nothing individual views the world as black or white. Since there is no allowance for gray areas, the behavior is either perfect or a failure. "I've ruined my diet by eating all that pizza. I can't stay on a diet and I'll just always be fat." Maybe the problem does not arise from the behavior... maybe the problem is with the diet that does not allow for pizza. "I do not want to give pizza up for the rest of my life, so what I need is a way to include pizza in my diet without feeling like a failure. Let me try having a salad (dressing on the side) before the pizza to take the edge off my hunger."
Good Foods/ Bad Foods. If the truth be told, foods do not misbehave. Foods are not good or bad. While it is true that some foods have more nutrients or are more fiber-dense than others, all foods can be enjoyed. How we think about food colors what we eat and how much we eat. If a food is labeled as bad (such as fries), then for many individuals that food is taboo. When one eventually succumbs to eating the forbidden, French fries, bingeing may result. Rather than continue with dichotomous thinking of good food/bad food, shift to allow space for all foods you like without judgement. Instead of "I ate those fries which are so bad for me" to "I really enjoyed that small portion of fries. They really satisfied me."
Body Distortions. Rather than dwelling on how fat or thin you think your body is, it is extremely helpful to view your body in terms of what it can do for you. For example, when you look in the mirror, instead of zooming in on your stomach which "looks five months pregnant, although your last baby was nine years ago" tell yourself "my body has given life" or "my body enables me to go where I want to and allows me to have fun."
The conversations that are going on inside your head cannot be stopped. However, what you can do is to be aware of negative self-talk and understand that it has little to do with actual reality. When you believe this, you can respond to the critical voice with a more objective, coping thought. Although negative thoughts may not be stopped entirely, they can be quieted by listening to your compassionate, caring voice. In much the same way you would sympathize and listen to a close friend, listen to yourself. Be your own best friend and chances are you'll have greater weight loss success.

20 Ways to Lose Weight

1. Take it one step at a time
Start by paying attention to what you eat. Cut back on fat and sweets and add more fruits and vegetables. After you have that under control, add exercise. If you hate to exercise try it for only 15 minutes a day at first, then a 1/2-hour. Keep in mind that while you are exercising you are burning calories and not eating. Also, it will be easier if you chose an activity that you enjoy.
2. Find a friend
It is always good to have support when you are trying to lose weight. Find a friend who wants to lose weight and compare notes, weigh-in together and maybe even have a contest.
3. Use weights
Working out weights will build muscle and raise your metabolism so you will burn more calories. Also, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller (but probably weigh more).
4. Eat fewer carbs
Don't eat as much bread and pasta and you will see a difference.
5. Set a goal
Set a deadline to lose the weight and write it down. For example, ' By Dec 14/04 I will weigh 150 lbs or less'. Put it somewhere you will see it daily.
6. Give up soda
If you drink a soda or 2 a day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop completely, cut back at first and drink water instead.
7. Grill or boil
Avoid fried meat, grill and use lots of spices. You will get used to it and probably enjoy it more.
8. Don't buy junk food
When you go shopping, don't go on an empty stomach and you will be less likely to buy junk food. Keep your home 'junk food free' so you won't be tempted to indulge.
9. Eat breakfast
Consume most of your calories early in the day and always eat breakfast. Don't eat after 8pm and not only will you avoid those added calories but you will sleep better.
10. Give yourself a treat
When you tell yourself that you can't have something you want it more. Give yourself a treat once a day (ie. half a cookie) and you won't feel you are missing out.
11. Use smaller plates
Trick yourself into believing that you are eating more by using a smaller plate.
12. Drink lots of water
Drink water when you are feeling hungry and you will get that 'full' feeling.
13. Don't eat everything on your plate
Many times we eat just because it's there. Pay attention to when you have had enough.
14. Eat five or six meals a day
Eating more frequently will keep you from getting too hungry.
15. Plan your workout sessions
Write your workout sessions in your journal or planner.
16. Stay away from fad diets
Fad diets don't work. If you lose weight fast chances are that you will gain it back (and more) just as fast. It takes time to put it on and time to take it off.
17. Do several workouts a day
While you are watching TV do crunches and leg lifts.
18. Measure your food
If you decide to have junk food for a snack - be sure to measure and control what you eat.
19. Keep pre-cut vegetables
... and ward off those cravings.
20. Create Good Habits
It is a known fact that when we do something twenty-one times it becomes a habit. Create good eating habits.

Want Power Before Will Power

The problem isn't that you don't have enough will power to achieve what you want. You have will power, but it's not will power you need, it's want power.
You have to first want
You must want to change your habits, want to lose some weight, want to give up your evening snacking before your will comes into play. Once you want a thing badly enough, you will do whatever it takes.
If you think you want something (to make a change in your eating habits perhaps), but then find it difficult to follow-through with your plans, most likely you simply want your current reality (your current habits and patterns) more than you want your goals (less weight, better health, etc.)
I can hear you all the way over here, telling me I'm wrong: "No, that's not right! I want this more than anything, I just don't have any willpower!" Round and round you go, but the truth is, you will get what you really want. Think back, has there ever been a time when you really wanted something? A certain piece of clothing, a certain house, car, job, spouse? Hum... Yes, we go after what we want, if we really want to acquire or achieve it we do. Nothings going to fall in your lap, you've got to go get what you want.
What's Going on?
Put another way, you may want to avoid the pain (breaking old habits, avoiding some favorite foods, simply not overeating...) more than you want to gain the pleasure (losing some weight, gaining new habits, eating favorite foods in moderation ...)
Since losing weight takes time, from weeks to months to years, it's easy to fall off the path. It's always easier to get back into our old habits of eating, eating, and more eating. There's always more food. Unless you are too poor to purchase it, there's plenty food in America - in fact, too much food, and so it becomes even more necessary to keep the longer-term goals in mind.
How do you keep the longer-term goals in mind, when the short-term food is staring you in the face? What about all the treats offered, what about the commercials, the billboards, the signs everywhere that say EAT?
Wanting, in fact, is the "W", the first step in the W.H.A.C.K approach. See it in the free e-book, Changing Beliefs, Your First Step to Permanent Weight Loss.
Think back to when you last really wanted something. Wanted it more than anything, had to have it, would do just about anything to get it. To want is a mighty powerful motivator, but surprisingly we aren't all motivated by what we want. Some of us are motivated by avoiding what we don't want.
What is your Motivation Strategy?
Motivation comes in two (or more) flavors. You can be motivated towards something (what you'll gain) or you can be motivated away from something (what you'll lose). This desiring to avoid can be confusing. I'm saying you must want something, and you're thinking, but I don't want to be fat. I can't think about my future, only what I don't want. Here is what's going on:
Motivation: Toward
If you are motivated by what you'll gain you find it easy to look ahead and see your future shapely body, you'll see people around you with admiring glances, you'll hear their compliments, you'll smell the good food and feel good knowing you can eat enough to be satisfied, and then say you're full. You've had enough, thank you. You'll be in control of your life. You'll want what you visualize more than anything, and you'll do whatever it takes to get it. If asked what movie to go see, they'll have a few ideas, and tell you why.
Motivation: Away
If you are motivated by what you'll lose you'll focus on what you want to avoid. For example, you want to avoid dying, you want to avoid being too heavy to enjoy playing with the kids, you want to avoid gasping for breath when you climb a flight of stairs. You want to avoid the embarrassment, the humiliation of other people's remarks and rude glances. You don't want any of that anymore, and you don't want it to the extent that you'll do whatever it takes to avoid these things. If you ask them what they want for dinner, they'll tell you they don't want Chinese, or pizza. It can be difficult to get someone motivated this way to actually say what they do want!
Knowing your motivation strategy makes it easier to find methods that support your preferred strategy. If you are motivated toward, you may enjoy cutting our pictures of people in great shape with similar body types to yours. Find models wearing clothes that would look good on you, pictures of swimming pools, holiday places you'd enjoy; the types of things that go into a dream board.
If you motivated away, then make a list of what you want to avoid and elaborate on that list. Why don't you want these things? The more detailed you are, the more likely you'll truly do what it takes to avoid them.
Hopefully these ideas will get you thinking, and much about making changes in our lives comes down to thinking it through. Realizing what we really want can get us past the hurdles of what we already have. To affect change isn't necessarily comfortable, until you've worked at it for awhile, and then suddenly your changed behavior has become your new behavior and the effort is over.

The Top Ten Things You Don't Want to Hear About Losing Weight

Let's face it: your body is your body. It's the only one you've got. Can you still look great? Sure! But there are some things you can't change. You can't make your legs longer or your feet smaller. You can't grow five inches or elongate your torso. You have what you have, so work with it! Concentrate on making a healthy and fit you instead of wishing you looked like someone else. You don't have to be perfect to be attractive. A strong, fit body as well as the self-confidence it brings can make any person attractive!
9) It's better to be muscular and weigh more than to be flabby and weigh less.
I've said it so many times: I'd much rather be 135lbs and muscular than 120lbs and flabby. I've been both, and 135lbs with a lower percent of body fat was definitely better! I was smaller, stronger and had much more energy. So, don't always seek that magical number on the scale, but look at your total body composition instead.
8) You can't get fit in a week.
Okay, well, you can, but only if you're one week away from being in peak condition and you keep working out. Otherwise, forget about it! If you want to look good for that class reunion or because you'll be in a bikini soon, then get moving way before that. Or better yet, get moving for your own health and not for "things" like reunions and bikinis.
7) You need to put some effort into it.
You want to get fit? You have to work at it. You have to plan it, you have to schedule it, and, most importantly, you have to do it. No excuses. Sitting on the couch, telling yourself you should be doing something will not burn up a lot of calories. If nothing else, get out there and start walking. And while you're out there walking think about a plan of action for a healthier you and get started on it today - not tomorrow!
6) You need to exercise.
Can you lose weight just by diet alone? Sure, you can! But if you want to get fit, you need to exercise those muscles, including your heart. And that heart won't get any exercise if you're sitting on the couch, eating broccoli. Lose the weight that you need to lose and you'll just end up with a thin, but flabby, body. Get moving! Weight training is ideal, but if you're really not into weight training, find an activity you like to do that work all your major muscle groups.
5) You need to eat properly.
Putting aside any low carb/low fat/high protein controversies, the simple fact is, if you want a fit body, you need to nourish it. Protein, carbs and fat are important, but vitamins and minerals are key elements that your body needs, too. No matter what way of eating you're following make sure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals. Add a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit to your diet. The next time you go grocery shopping, linger around the produce section and not only pick out some old favorites, but experiment a little by trying something new!
4) You can't lose weight overnight.
You didn't gain it overnight -- or in two months -- and you're not going to lose it overnight -- or in two months. Think of getting fit as a train leaving the station: you start off slow, gather speed and then off you go! Patience is the key here. Look for consistent trends. If you're really not losing fat and getting stronger after a couple of months, then you need to sit down and honestly analyze what you're doing. Keep a journal to help you know how you're really eating and exercising.
3) You can't spot reduce.
Genetics will decide where the fat will come off. Doing 1000 crunches won't reduce your belly fat. Nor will 1000 leg lifts get rid of the fat on your inner thighs. Your body does not burn the fat it needs from the body part that you're exercising. Your body will burn fat much like an onion is peeled, a layer at a time, if you will. So, don't overdo it on the exercise for one specific body part and look to getting your whole body in shape.
2) There are no quick fixes.
That's right, you heard me. There are no quick fixes. None. Put all those pills, potions, contraptions and miracle diets in the garbage where they belong. Learn the basics about how your body gains muscle and loses fat, so you won't get sucked in by another scam again.
1) Fitness is a lifelong commitment!
So, you faithfully work out and eat properly and you've reached your goals. Now what? Well, now you've got to keep doing it for the rest of your life, that's what! You can't just work your way to being fit and then stop, because you'll end up exactly like you were before. Fitness is a lifelong commitment. And, you want to know a secret? It isn't easy! And anyone who says it is easy is trying to sell you something. Make fitness a lifelong ambition and you'll reap the rewards of a long and healthy life, filled with energy, strength and an overall sense of well being.

8 Proven Weight Loss Tips

There are a lot of "crash" diets out there that promise that you'll drop a considerable amount of weight in days or a week.
I have tried a few of these, and in my experience the weight always comes back on, just as quickly since the weight loss tips given are not something that will work with your body.
One thing you don't want to do if you are actually serious about losing weight is to follow these fad diets and their ridiculous weight loss tips.
After their ineffectiveness has been proven time and again, people will start to wise up to that particular diet, and will head off in search of a new craze.
Lets be honest, people are always searching for new weight loss
tips because they want to lose pounds and they want immediate results, but this is just wishful thinking.
To lose weight permanently and effectively it will be a rather slow progress, all depending on your metabolic rate and how much you need to lose.
There are however some proven tried and true weight loss tips for aiding in the weight loss process, and I can make you familiar with them.
Weight Loss Tip 1
Don't skip breakfast. Whatever you do follow this advice, because otherwise you are much more likely in fact prone to binge later in the day.
Weight Loss Tip 2
Don't eat anything for at least an hour before going to bed.
Weight Loss Tip 3
Don't snack while watching TV. It's acceptable to eat a meal while watching television, but never is snacking at this time acceptable.
Weight Loss Tip 4
Substitute fruits like; bananas, watermelon, plums, peaches, and oranges for sugary treats like; cookies and candy.
Weight Loss Tip 5
Substitute honey for sugar, and carob powder for chocolate in all recipes. These taste just as good if not better when used properly.
Weight Loss Tip 6
Eat more vegetables. This can even be enjoyable if you have a
good cookbook like Good housekeeping's latest edition.
Weight Loss Tip 7
Avoid unnecessary high calorie foods. Instead of a high calorie salad dressing for instance try cottage cheese or yogurt to improve the salads taste and peel of the pounds.
Weight Loss Tip 8
Exercise at least a half hour each day for five days out of the week. Biking on a stationery bike while reading is a great form of exercise to slim legs.

What To Expect After A Surgical Weight Loss Procedure

For people who are obese, or severely overweight, going to fitness centers may not give them their desired results of having a small body. A diet program or weight loss medication may not work for them either, and this is why they may opt for surgery to achieve their desired body weight. Gastric bypass surgery enables one to lose weight by reducing the amount of food he/she takes. The procedure ensures that the stomach is smaller, causing one to feel full just upon eating a small amount of food. Since fewer nutrients are absorbed, one experiences weight loss almost immediately.
There are different ways to administer this procedure, one being the Roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery, which involves the creation of a" new stomach". Normally during digestion, food is absorbed in the small intestines and here, the nutrients are absorbed, then the rest is waste, which is excreted through the large intestines. With this surgery, the new stomach pouch is attached directly to the small intestines, in the middle area called the jejunum. This means that the surgeon will bypass the entire duodenum.
· After surgery pains
This surgery is of great help if you really need to lose weight. However, it is a long journey through recovery for your body to adapt to the new way of functioning. After the surgery, you are likely to suffer some belly pain, but this can be taken care of by painkillers, administered during the first week after the surgery. You may also experience dumping syndrome as the gastric bypass surgery makes your stomach small and hence food gets in and out very quickly for the first few days. This may cause diarrhea and major nausea.
· Watching your diet
You will be guided on what to eat, especially immediately after surgery. Since your stomach is sore at that time, it needs a proper environment for healing. Therefore, a small intake of soft foods is advised. Water is of essence during this time to ensure that you are not dehydrated. Water is also good at this time as it aids with the bowel movements. You should try as much not to strain with bowel movements.
With time, you will be able to eat more solid foods. However, you have to be careful while eating, ensuring that you chew properly, to avoid feeling nauseated. The stomach is a flexible organ, capable of stretching. Therefore, you should avoid high calorie drinks such as sodas. Also, avoid over eating as this may stretch your stomach, leading you to gain the weight you paid so much to lose.
With a gastric bypass surgery, you may experience a deficiency in some of the vitamins and minerals that are absorbed faster than others are. You will need to watch on your calcium, iron vitamins and magnesium, as they are easily absorbed.
· Take rest

Traveling Light - Little Changes Make for a Healthier Business Trip

Alarm clock went off at 4am, time to get rolling for my 6am flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. The family has no idea I'm coming into town which always makes for some great surprises! Whether you are an occasional flyer or spend more time on an airplane than you do at home, many want to use the excuse of traveling as the reason they are out of shape or overweight. The truth is, even the littlest decisions you make when traveling can have a huge impact on your health.
Eating healthy does not always mean you have to have chicken breast, egg whites and steamed broccoli. Sure these are great food choices but they are not always available. When traveling, it is important to focus on portion control and making "smarter" food choices.
Lets use my flight as an example. So breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, we have all heard that saying before. Lets start there. You wake up with two choices: you can eat at home, most likely with healthier options than what is offered on the plane or you can choose to hold off and eat breakfast at the airport or on the plane. The first mistake people can make is to eat breakfast at home and eat breakfast on the plane. Overeating by consuming such a large amount of calories followed by a long duration of sitting on a plane is not the best way to kickstart your metabolism. Some healthy breakfast ideas when eating at home include egg whites, grapefruit and oatmeal or oatmeal with fresh berries or egg whites, lean protein and 1/2 cup of brown rice. These foods will help fuel the body without leaving you feeling tired and bloated all day. Breakfast foods to avoid consist of high sugary cereals, pastries, high sodium breakfast sandwiches and processed foods.
Now what about having breakfast on the plane? For those that fly quite a bit, you know even the healthiest options are not very healthy. Unless your flight is over 3.5 hours, your a la carte food options consist of Pringles, M&Ms, fruit chews, croissant or Chex Mix. Yikes! What about snack boxes: Tapas, Classic or Savory. What about a healthy snack box? Amongst other unhealthy items, chocolate covered fruit, candy, Oreos and Nutella are just some foods that come in the snack box. Each box ranges from $7.49 to $8.59, low in price but high in calories and fat.
So I was very fortunate to fly first class on my 3 hour 48 minute flight to Chicago which means breakfast is served! The flight attendant comes by offering two different options which are much different than the options others can choose from. Option 1 was corn flakes with a banana and option 2 was eggs, potatoes, sausage. Majority of people sitting around decided on option 2 and so did I since eggs were the better option over cereal. How about offering oatmeal with berries instead? Airlines have hot water for coffee and oatmeal can't weigh anymore than a box of cereal.
So when the food arrives it is much more than eggs, potatoes and sausage. We also get a bowl of fruit, a cup of strawberry yogurt and the option of a fresh croissant or cinnamon roll with butter and jelly. Talking about sending your body into caloric shock. Makes me bloated just thinking about it. So I hate to waste food but that is not a reason to over eat. So given the menu, what did I decide to eat and what did I pass on? I had my usual cup of coffee with skim milk! Switching from creamer or half and half to milk can make a big difference, especially if you drink multiple cups of coffee throughout the day or even a cup everyday. Calories are calories and at the end of the month they add up to pounds.
Before going into what I chose to eat, I should let you know I pulled out my phone to snap a quick picture of my meal. Sitting next to me a lady, probably late 30s, who told me there is a website out there where people post pictures of their airline food. I said I am taking the picture for my fitness blog. She immediately says, sweetie I fly over 200,000 miles a year, eating healthy and following any sort of fitness routine went out the window a long time ago. And there you have it... Excuse!
So the lady next to me also got the egg breakfast option. I ate the eggs, entire bowl of fruit, small portion of breakfast potatoes and about 3 spoonfuls of yogurt. I passed on the croissant and sausage since many breakfast meats are processed and loaded with sodium. I glanced over to see that the woman next to me was done pretty much before I chopped up my eggs. Holy cow, problem number 1, slow down when you eat, it is not a race. Also, over eating occurs because it takes 20 minutes for the stomach to tell the brain you are full, if you scoff down a meal in 10 minutes flat no wonder why a person keeps eating and still might be hungry after finishing an entire meal. Lady we have over 3.5 hours on this flight, slow down. Okay, problem number 2 is the two diet cokes with breakfast at 7 in the morning. Yikes again! Drinking water is an essential part of weight management yet many people do not drink even the minimum daily requirement. About a half hour in flight I was 4 waters in, if for not being a pest to the flight attendant I would be about 8 waters in.
When the flight attendant comes by offering hot croissants, what do you think happened next. Oh yes, right across my nose came this hot buttery croissant right onto the woman's plate. I looked right, looked left and like a magic trick that croissant disappeared. When the flight attendant came to pick up the trays, the two things left on the woman's plate included the fruit and yogurt, not even touched! Problem number 3, poor food choices.
A better option would have been start with the eggs and fruit, take your time eating and if you need a little more than have some yogurt. Adding the sausage increases your sodium intake which can make you feel bloated and the croissant, empty calories! Are you thinking this is not enough? If you cleared your plate and took every option offered, you definitely ate too much. Also, to maintain a healthy weight, it is smart to eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day to keep the metabolism running.
With this in mind, remember that you will be off the plane in a few hours. This is a great time for a second meal. Again, focus on portion control and be conscious on what you put in your body. No time to sit down and eat? Pack some raw almonds or a natural protein bar in your bag, grab yourself a water at the newsstand and fuel your body for the next few hours.
What else? Walk versus taking the moving walkway. Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, walk around and navigate through the terminal rather than sitting for 30-40 minutes waiting for the plane to arrive.
I am not saying you have to do wall sits and walking lunges down the moving walkway to stay fit when you travel, even the smallest changes make for a healthier business trip.
Another tip to stay healthy on the go? Enzymes! Keep a small bag or pill case in your bag with some digestive enzymes and papaya enzyme chewables. Taking digestive enzymes with your meals will help your body break down the carbs, protein and fats in the foods you eat which will help the body use food as an energy source throughout the day. Also, chewing one papaya enzyme following meals is a great way to naturally reduce bloating, gas or heartburn following meals high in fat, sodium and calories.

With the various weight loss surgeries, the quality of life and health are what many speak of enjoying, together, of course with a new look which is brought about by the weight loss. This procedure carries with it benefits, among which include:

This small pouch fills faster, thereby sending a message to your brain that your stomach is full and in turn, you will feel less hungry.
Earlier on, similar procedures such as open surgery would take much time to perform the surgery. Low Carb Diet in Depth

When you choose a diet, you want to make sure there are plenty of positive benefits beyond losing weight. You want to be healthier overall by eating in the manner the diet instructs you to eat on a daily basis. You also want to be able to follow the plan for life instead of just a few weeks or months. The benefits of a low carb diet will provide the healthy daily plan you can implement for life.
You may not realize that eating carbs can increase the chance of negative health issues. By reducing the volume of carbs daily that you eat, some medical conditions you often experience may occur less often. The frequency of headaches, joint pain, and trouble concentrating will diminish when you reduce the intake of carbs. This may help you reduce the amount of pain medicine you take when the pain of headaches and joints go away. So you will feel healthier and save money on medicine by the benefits of this diet.
Often when your diet mood swings can cause the process to be difficult. The highs and lows of mood and energy can cause you to binge eat. Another benefit of the low carb diet is the balancing of mood and energy. Actually the body gets more consistent energy from protein and other nutrients than from carbs. Carbs bring on short term energy spurts that will drop your energy level quickly once the carbs are digested. By lowering the volume of carbs you eat, your energy will come from other nutrients that are more consistent energy reducing mood and energy swings.
If you enjoy exercise and want to tone and build muscle tissue which helps fight fat in your body, a low carb diet can help. After a workout your muscles are very sensitive to insulin and do not need as many carbs as some people may think. By eating a low carb diet, your muscles after a workout will draw in more amino acids from your meal. The amino acids will help the muscles heal from the workout quicker and burn more fat.
The impact or prevention of diabetes can be helped by a low carb diet. If you have diabetes a low carb diet may help balance your insulin level more throughout the day. If you have family members with diabetes and want to avoid getting the disease yourself, a low carbohydrate diet is a good healthy way to naturally balance your insulin.
So as you can see, there are many benefits to a low carb diet beyond just losing weight. You will see an improvement in your weight but you will also have more energy and feel healthier. That is the goal of losing weight as well; to be healthier.
Eating more vegetables and proteins as well as fruits and nuts can be a good start to a low carb diet. Gradually reduce your intake of breads, sweets, and items made from white flour and white sugar. Easy Things to Do Outside of the Dieting Inner Circles

Several months ago I started on a diet that changed my world both physically and mentally it was called the herbalife advantage program.
I did not know it then but looking back on that experience changed the way that I think about weight loss.
Many people think that when you start a diet that it's all about looking good and getting in the shape you've always wanted but for me it was different; I started the diet because I literally felt like crap all the time.
You see I've had a fast metabolism all my life and could always really just eat what I wanted and never gain weight but then my bad eating habits started to catch up with me I realized that diets aren't just about losing weight; they are about being healthy, and sleeping better, and having more energy to do the things you want to do.
And so the physical reason for my dieting became about my friends, and my family, and my involvement in the community; In truth my physical reason for dieting became focused not on myself but on how I affected the people around me and I realized that a diet change was necessary for me to be in their lives for very long.
And so this is what I did to make myself more active.
First I made a status on my Facebook to say that I was going to be more active; It sounds so simple but it's probably the most important step because then the whole world would hold me accountable to my statement or at least my small group of friends would. And the great thing is that they not only held me accountable but also encouraged me to do what I said I would do.
The next step was to get involved in my community this was probably the hardest step mainly because my community is so small and also because they aren't very active either so I had to get out of my little town and start going to neighboring cities to be involved and volunteering all the while trying to be more healthy in my own eating habits, and also in my activities.
Step Three; The Personal Statement.
The last step I made was to make a private proclamation to myself that I would be healthier and to do this I used notepad on my laptop computer to make over thirty copies of a page that said in the biggest font I could write "I Will Be Healthy" and I taped it on every wall in my house simply because when I was at home I was the weakest, and I needed that reminder keeping me on track everywhere I went.
These three steps are your personal key not only to losing weight, but to do anything you want to do. Dieting is not the answer and being active is not the answer either, but one healthy balanced diet plus an active life almost always equals weight loss and incredible energy and in addition it will put your energy to good use.
Stop dieting and start living healthy and you won't regret it.

Reviews of Phen375 - The Most Effective Fat Burning Diet Pills

People are trying endlessly to achieve their ideal weight. They are exercising, dieting, fasting, and taking products to help them lose that excess weight. But in these modern days, where people have almost no time to exercise, have no motivation to diet, or fasting, they turn to products that will help them lose that excess weight. Among the products that give promises to lose weight, fast, Phen375 has stood out as the most sought after product that will help people lose weight, or fat, fast.
Phen375, which stands for Phentemine375, is a diet pill and appetite suppressant product. This product has become a huge favorite product for those who want to shed fat fast. The product gives a very convincing promise. It gives guarantee that people who consume it will lose 20 lbs in just 6 weeks. That's very convincing, isn't it?
Why does the product give such very convincing promise? Phen375 has long been recognized as the most powerful appetite suppressant and fat burning pills. Phen375 also acts as a fat burner. It accelerates metabolism in order to release fat stored in muscles, which is called 'burning fat'.
The product releases fat that is stored in muscles, and then it will flow into the blood stream to be used as energy. The pill also suppresses craving which has become the main cause of a fail diet, which happens to almost everyone who wants to lose weight by dieting. This two attributes have made the product very popular, also since the official website of Phen375 posts testimonials from a lot of people who have succeeded in their diet program using Phen375.
Phen375 contains ingredients in a correct proportion to give effect desired by people having diet. There are seven ingredients in a single pill that create remarkable formula and give superb effect; calcium (carbonate) grain, l-carnitine (l-tartrate)(carnipure TM), citrus aurantium, caffeine powder anhydrous, longjack tongkat ali root (eurycoma), cayenne(capsicum), and chromium (picolinate).
Each of these ingredients has been known as the most element used in most diet product. Now Phen375 has invented a superb formula to make the most out of each of those elements to give the most effect desired by people who seek for the fastest and safest result.
In order to lose weight fast, after taking this Phen375 pill, the first thing to consider is the daily intake of food. Experts always say to control the intake of carbohydrate, and fat (red/dark meat), to add the consumption of fiber; vegetables and fruits, and to avoid excessive consumption of sugar/sweets.
Those are the hardest thing for people when they want to lose weight. But with Phen375 those thing will not matter. It will act as appetite suppression. Hunger will not be as bad as before taking the pills. A lot of testimonials can be found in Phen375.com, the official web site.
Exercising is the next thing that comes into consideration. It doesn't always mean a rigorous exercise; just an exercise to make sure the blood circulation in the body flows well. But if one does his/her regular rigorous exercise, it will not matter either. It will just stimulate the effect of Phen375.
So the result of taking Phen375 is up to the consumers, whether they want a fast result, or just take it leisurely. Just do daily activities and let Phen375 do the rest.

However, many of them don't realize that these procedures can do much more than help them lose fat. Shedding those excess pounds can also do things like rid them of sleep apnea issues. Now, some may see this as a seemingly insignificant problem. However, there are many people who are dealing with this dilemma who would love to have some relief.

On the other hand, if you are, you may want to look into it. It could definitely change your life for the better in more ways than one. Just think about it.
One of the things that sleep apnea does is cause an interruption in people's sleep. Some people experience waking up with breathing trouble several times a night. This can cause them to be extremely tired in the morning and could even cause them to wake up later than usual.
Imagine someone who has this sleeping issue, trying to go to bed early every night so that they can wake up on time for work in the morning. Unfortunately, one night they end up having a particularly bad night and their sleep apnea issues start getting worse and their sleep is interrupted more than five times. Because of this break in their rest they end up waking up late for work.
Now, what if something like this occurred several times? They would not only be seen as the person who doesn't show up on time for work, but their job could also be in jeopardy as a result. To some, this may seem like a far-fetched scenario, but this can actually happen. The good news is that there is an answer and that is weight loss surgery.
By getting rid of sleep apnea this procedure can also prevent people from disturbing others in their sleep. Many people with this issue make loud snoring noises. Unless the person sleeping next to them goes to sleep first, he or she will most likely have trouble sleeping as well.

While it may be too late for those who have already embarked upon their umpteenth diet, anyone contemplating a reduced calorie diet for the first time should take warning. Likewise; those fortunate enough to still be regarded as slim should take note of what lies ahead should they fail to control their weight. The phenomenon responsible for such a devastating effect upon our lives is a combination of the much heralded "starvation mode" and "weight loss plateau." In truth, it should be correctly termed the "rebound effect."
causes of weight gain
For as long as our weight remains in a steady state there is no loss or gain. A balanced weight is the sum total of a number of factors, shifts in any one of which will not only directly affect weight, but by causing changes in the other factors will also create secondary effects. The primary factors in weight control are;
  • Diet; altering the amount of calorific intake will result in stored energy (fat) either being used up or added to.
  • Behavioral; the amount of physical activity in relation to calorific intake.
  • Biological: apart from the aging process there is also the way our bodies respond to the variable amounts and types of food we eat. All of which can profoundly affect our metabolism. and how effective we store energy.
Our genes do have some influence over how we react to such shifts, and because of this some of us are more susceptible to weight gain than others. However; it is the often ignored biological factor that is the root cause of most diet failures. Apart from responses to pharmaceutical intervention, our body also reacts to diet and behavioral changes, both immediately and in the medium to longterm.
Our response to being overweight
The typical response to our bulging waistline is to batten down the hatches and reduce our calorific intake. All too often we deny ourselves the foods we savour the most. This alone can have a profound psychological effect. Added to this we may skip meals which often results in us more than compensating at the next meal. Unfortunately, the cravings resulting from our self deprivation are only the beginning. The hidden responses, developed over millions of years, are far more devastating
Our bodies' response to dieting
Reduced energy diets will often begin with a sudden weight loss. The very fact that this weight loss slows down should sound the first warning bell. Ultimately all diets begin and end with the brain. Reduced intake initiates signals from the hypothalamus to all energy storing and using cells to increase efficiency, Unfortunately it gets worse, some of the weight lost in low energy diets will invariably be lean mass, or muscle. Skeletal muscle is by far the biggest consumer of calories. Two reasons why the rate of weight loss slows down.
After the diet
Eventually we may reach our desired weight, or simply surrender to the cravings, which is when the problems really begin. In addition to our bodies becoming more efficient we also have less mass to consume the increased energy input, so less food is needed than before. Surplus food is converted to fat before being placed in storage. Finally, in one more quirk of fate; when we diet our fat cells don't disappear, they shrink. However; as our bodies initially struggle to store the higher input, more fat cells are created. Ultimately resulting in a greater fat storing capability.
Summary
You have been presented with the reasons low or reduced calorie diets do not work. Rather than being healthy, they are detrimental to our health. Over millions of years, nature has perfected the ultimate response to overcoming periods of food scarcity. Unfortunately; as the evidence suggests, the problem of excess food energy storage is a new phenomenon to nature, and something she has yet to overcome. As the evidence shows; how many times have you, or people you know, embarked upon a diet only to end up weighing more than ever? Fortunately there is a solution, however; just as there are a number of factors that combine to drive our weight up, to succeed, the solution requires a multifaceted approach.
